Two police officers will be selected this month to patrol five schools starting next school year, as part of a program to develop a closer relationship with the city’s youth.

The move is part of the department’s effort to revive a School Resource Officer program, which it began in the 1970s but had to abandon because funds were short.

“It’s to let the kids know we are human beings just like everyone else,” acting Chief Russ Rice said.
