Huntington AVP Event Begins Today

Huntington Beach will host the Assn. of Volleyball Professionals tour event this weekend with play beginning today and finishing Sunday just south of the pier.

The top-seeded team is Huntington Beach’s Brian Lewis and Manhattan Beach’s Canyon Ceman, and San Clemente’s Karch Kiraly and Adam Johnson are seeded second.

Brazil’s Jose Loiola and Emanuel Rego, the top-ranked AVP team and winners last week at Hermosa Beach, and Dain Blanton (Laguna Beach High) and Eric Fonoimoana are among the teams skipping the AVP event to play in the FIVB tournament in Toronto this weekend.

The purse for the Huntington Beach event is $75,000 with the winners receiving $16,000.

A free youth clinic will take place beginning at 5 p.m. today at the pier, featuring top players who will also be available for photos and autographs.

The final is scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. Admission is free.
