Truck Plunges From Cliff; Driver Dies
A driver was killed Friday evening shortly after his pickup truck fell down an oceanfront cliff in Palos Verdes Estates, according to fire officials.
The truck stopped 75 to 100 feet below the 800 block of Paseo Del Mar about 6 p.m. The driver was alive when rescuers reached the truck, according to a Los Angeles County fire official, but he died before firefighters could get him out.
Firefighters spent about an hour trying to make sure the crushed truck did not move, he said. It took firefighters another hour to lift the truck and its occupant.
It was unclear if the truck went off the road or off an overlook just below it.
The driver’s name was not immediately available. Palos Verdes Estates police are handling the accident investigation.
