Four Kings

Paramount has added the Spike Lee-directed comedy-concert film “The Original Kings of Comedy” to its summer lineup. The film, which Lee shot on the 1999 comedy tour of the same name, features African American comics Cedric the Entertainer, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Bernie Mac. Lee’s last documentary was the Academy Award-nominated “4 Little Girls,” about the 1963 Birmingham, Ala., church bombing that killed four young choir members. “The Original Kings of Comedy” will be released Aug. 18. In other Paramount release news, “Along Came a Spider,” the follow-up to the 1997 thriller “Kiss the Girls,” has been moved from the fall slate to the first quarter of 2001. Morgan Freeman will reprise his role as detective Alex Cross; his co-stars include Monica Potter, Penelope Ann Miller and Michael Moriarty. The Alex Cross films are based on mystery novels by James Patterson.

Site for a Day

The Internet film company iFilm unveiled its new Hollywood headquarters Monday with guest of honor Mayor Richard Riordan in attendance. The mayor welcomed Chief Executive Kevin Wendle to town by declaring June 12 iFilm Day in Los Angeles. The Web firm specializes in presenting short films on the Web (https://www.ifilm.com) and operates an industry-only portal (https://www.ifilmpro.com). It has increased its entertainment-business presence recently by purchasing the Development Source, Hollywood Creative Directory, Lone Eagle Publishing, ScriptShark and TV Tracker. The 20-month-old new media entry also “screened” a recent acquisition, “405 The Movie,” a short comedy by local filmmakers Bruce Branit and Jeremy Hunt about a jet making an emergency landing on the freeway adjacent to LAX. The two crafted the film digitally on their home computers.
