Dorothy Laubacher; Nurse, Longtime Resident

Dorothy Laubacher, a retired registered nurse, died Friday in Ventura after a lengthy illness. She was 96.

She was born Aug. 24, 1903, in Malvern, Ohio, to Francis and Sarah Auseon Laubacher. Five years later the family moved to Oxnard as some of the county’s first settlers.

Laubacher attended St. Joseph’s Institute, which later became the Santa Clara grammar and high schools. She later attended nursing school at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles and became a registered nurse.

She spent 41 years as a nurse at what was then Oxnard’s St. John’s Hospital.

Laubacher was an active member of Santa Clara Catholic Church and helped prepare for celebration of the Mass until she fell ill at 90.

She is survived by her sister, Alice Usher of Visalia, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Her primary caregivers were nieces Genevieve Basso and Michelle Hagemann of Ventura.

Mass is scheduled at 11:30 this morning at the San Buenaventura Mission. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
