A Fontana man was arrested Sunday in connection with a fatal Fullerton barroom brawl after the televised De La Hoya-Mosley boxing match, police said.

Christian Negrete, 28, was charged with homicide and aggravated assault.

Richard Lupe Sanchez, 48, suffered head injuries in the 10:30 p.m. altercation at Darby’s Pub and died at the scene. The Orange County coroner’s office has not determined what weapon was used or the cause of death.

Negrete is being held at the Fullerton City Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at the North Justice Center in Fullerton.

Eight to 12 bar patrons began fighting after the broadcast of “Sugar” Shane Mosley’s decision over Oscar De La Hoya, police said. The brawl broke out at the rear entrance, then spilled outside.

Witnesses told police patrons of the West Williamson Way bar were swinging pool cues and throwing pool balls, beer bottles and glass mugs.

In addition to Sanchez, a 30-year-old from Orange and a 23-year-old from Buena Park were struck in the head. They were treated at local hospitals and released.

Negrete, a former Fullerton resident, was on parole for narcotics violations at the time of his arrest, Police Sgt. Joe Klein said.
