Fund-Raiser to Open Senior Center Drive

The first of several events to raise funds for the $1.3-million expansion of a local senior center will be Thursday.
Westlake Village residents Ed and Lynn Hogan will host the fund-raiser at their home on Westlake Island from 5 to 7 p.m. to raise money for the Senior Concerns Fitzgerald Center.
The center, built in 1992, is used daily by several dozen seniors who come to play games, exercise and do arts and crafts.
Most of the seniors who attend have special needs and cannot live on their own. The time they spend at the center often gives caregivers a much-needed break during the day, say center volunteers.
According to Frances Prince, executive director of the nonprofit organization, the expansion will double the size of the Fitzgerald Center, 401 Hodencamp Road, Thousand Oaks, to accommodate a growing senior population.
More than 17,000 people over the age of 65 live in the Conejo Valley area and that number is expected to double during the next 15 years, she said.
Several area government officials, business owners and center benefactors are expected to attend the fund-raiser. For more information, contact Prince at 497-0189.
