John F. Malta Milo; Retired Land Surveyor

John F. Malta Milo, a retired land surveyor, died at his home in Ventura on Saturday. He was 92.

Milo was born March 18, 1908, in Warns, the Netherlands, and grew up in Holland.

Milo worked for the Dutch government as a land surveyor for 20 years. During that time he traveled from Holland to New Jersey, then to Australia and the East Indies and back to Holland.

He was married on June 2, 1932. In January 1956, the family immigrated to the United States and settled in New Jersey, where they lived for 15 years. He and his wife retired to Florida in 1971. Ten years later they moved to Ventura.

Friends and family knew him as “Pappie.” He loved gardening, reading, traveling, politics, woodworking, mathematics and fixing things.

In addition to Lizette, his wife of 68 years, he is survived by two sons, Hans of Georgia and Willem of Texas; three daughters, Maria L ten Kate of the Netherlands and Astrid Thibodau and Mieke Bechtel of Ventura; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
