GRANADA HILLS — A 46-year-old Pacoima man was killed Tuesday morning when he ran a red light and collided with a Los Angeles Unified School District maintenance truck, police said.
The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. as the man drove south on Haskell Avenue in a white Chevrolet Blazer.
Two witnesses told police that the vehicle entered the intersection against the light at Chatsworth Street, said Officer Arturo Covarrubias of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division. A school district pickup truck traveling west on Chatsworth slammed into the Blazer, crushing the driver’s side.
The 44-year-old driver of the pickup, a San Fernando man whom police declined to identify, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center with minor injuries.
The Blazer’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities withheld his name until relatives could be notified.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash, Covarrubias said.
