Council Delays Vote on Condos
The City Council postponed a vote Monday on a developer’s proposal to build 21 two-story condominiums on Sprague Avenue after the plan met with opposition from some neighborhood homeowners.
Residents complained that the condos would bring traffic, crowds and too many curbside trash containers to the street, lined with elementary schools and family homes in the north end of the city.
Resident Ken Rempel told the council that Sprague Avenue, which is only 22 feet wide, is too narrow to handle the number of cars that the condos would bring.
Others said they feared a loss of privacy if the condos went in too close to their homes.
Anaheim developer K.C. Chang said the condos would improve the area by providing affordable family housing. The condos would cost about $200,000 each, he said.
The council asked Chang to work with residents to find more space for cars and trash containers. It also recommended that the developer build slightly fewer condos on the street.
