Residents Josie Anderson and Kelly Singer were honored by the city’s Chamber of Commerce in a recent awards ceremony naming them Citizen of the Year and Youth of the Year, respectively.

They were chosen from a long list of nominations because of their considerable commitment to the community and its residents and for going above and beyond their daily jobs, chamber officials said.

Anderson, the city’s social service supervisor, was honored for the large amount of time she spends volunteering for various youth sports and activities while still performing her professional duties, said Ted Hebert, chamber president.

Singer, a 17-year-old Sonora High School graduate, surprised some chamber officials, who only knew her as Miss La Habra and the city’s Corn Festival Queen, with the amount of leadership, community service and personal time she has dedicated to the city, he said.
