Storm Puts a Stop to Fullerton Baseball Game

USC opened the Kia Baseball Bash at Titan Field with a 9-2 victory over Georgia Tech Friday afternoon, but the second game matching Cal State Fullerton against Mississippi State was postponed until noon today because of rain.

Mississippi State had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but a thunderstorm stopped the game going into the bottom of the inning.

The game will resume at the point it was postponed. Mississippi State scored its run on a double by Jon Knott, a balk by Titan pitcher Adam Johnson and a single by Phillip Willingham with none out.

Fullerton Coach George Horton said Matt Sorensen will take over on the mound for Johnson when the game resumes. “Adam threw too many pitches to come right back tomorrow,” Horton said.

Horton said Johnson would start Sunday’s game against USC.

The USC-Mississippi State game game will follow the Fullerton-Mississippi State game today, with the Fullerton-Georgia Tech game still scheduled for 7 p.m. Jon Smith is scheduled to pitch for the Titans against Georgia Tech.

Mark Prior (4-1) gave up six hits and two runs in seven innings to pick up the victory for USC (10-3).
