The 23,000 runners in the 15th Los Angeles Marathon will likely have to slog through rain and dodge puddles today as a big storm moves through the Southland, bringing thunder, flash flood warnings in some areas and as much as two inches of precipitation, meteorologists said Saturday.

The showers will linger through the late morning, said Wes Etheredge of Weather Data Inc.

“There will be a brief clearing in the early afternoon, but another system from the northwest will bring more rain later in the day, continuing into Monday,” he said.

The flash flood warning applies to the burn areas in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Winds will be out of the west and southwest between 5 and 15 mph, climbing to 12 to 25 mph in the mountains.

Snow levels will drop to 2,500 feet. Above 5,000 feet, 12 to 18 inches of snow is expected.

The rain is expected early in the morning, just in time to drench the runners and the estimated 30,000 people expected to line the streets to watch the race.
