The Rev. Dave Rader and 20 members of the Brea Baptist Church will leave Thursday for an 11-day excursion to Las Serenas in northern Chile to build a summer camp for the South American residents looking to find solace in the Bible.

Brea Baptist’s husband-and-wife missionary team of Dave and Hope Reinhardt have bought land in Chile with money Brea Baptist gave them.

With the new camp, Rader said, the Reinhardts won’t have to work around the schedules of other groups at overcrowded camps owned by various churches. The Reinhardts are hoping to boost the amount of time and control they have over how many people they bring and when they can bring them.

The missionaries need about $17,000 to build 20 cabins. Rader said the church already has received $3,000 from a charity event to install three prefabricated cabins at a cost of $1,000 each.
