Firefighters evacuated about 10,000 people from USC’s bookstore, gym and health center Tuesday after an unusual odor was reported.

Several buildings were evacuated shortly after 5 p.m., said Bob Collis of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters used devices that detect dangerous gases, but the smell dissipated within about 90 minutes, Collis said.
