Cal State Fullerton registered 96 more students this spring than last fall, the biggest increase in 25 years, university officials said.

Enrollment rose to 27,263 in spring 2000, up from 27,167 last September, according to the Cal State Fullerton’s offices of Admissions and Records and Analytical Studies.

“The number of students graduating from high school and community colleges is increasing throughout California,” said Dr. Ephraim P. Smith, vice president for academic affairs at Cal State Fullerton. “We are expecting more next year.”

Applications for next fall’s classes have risen 11%, Smith said.

Cal State Fullerton has the fastest-growing enrollment of the 23 universities in the Cal State system. “We are recruiting additional full-time faculty, preparing rooms and other resources that we need available for additional students,” Smith said.
