Malibu Offers Advice on Septic Systems

Share

It was with great interest that I read the Feb. 20 article titled “Homes Are Still Built With Septic Systems” by Lew Sichelman.

As the mayor of the city of Malibu, I can tell you that the use of septic systems as an effective and environmentally friendly means of waste-water treatment is alive and well in Malibu, as well as significant areas in the surrounding unincorporated area of L.A. County.

Malibu has been committed to the use and management of private waste-treatment systems since incorporation in 1991. The city has developed and implemented ordinances and policies that encourage the use of state-of-the-art computer-controlled private waste-water treatment systems.

If anyone is interested in finding out more about Malibu’s private waste-treatment systems, I invite them to contact our environmental and building safety official, Vic Peterson. He can be reached at (310) 456-2489, Ext. 251 or via e-mail at vpeterson@ci.malibu.ca.us.
