Oakland Good to Clippers

Maybe the Clippers should have considered sharing the Arena in Oakland with the Golden Warriors this season instead of moving into Staples Center with the Lakers. It has turned into a home away from home.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve won, a real long time,” said Lamar Odom after the Clippers, one of the worst road teams in the NBA, broke a 19-game road losing streak with a 112-103 victory over the Golden State Warriors Sunday night before 10,078.

“I can’t remember the last game we won, to tell you the truth. It feels great.”

The last road win was right here in Oakland, 103-99, on Dec. 22. The Clippers have won five straight games in Oakland since their last loss here in December 1996.

As usual, the Warriors were unable to shake them off.

“I’m choosing my words carefully, because I’m not happy,” said Warrior Coach Gary St. Jean. “That’s the low point since I’ve been down on the bench, without a doubt. Their big team beat our big team. Their small team beat our small team. They outhustled us. They made a ton of shots, and we deserved what we got.”

The victory was well-earned for the Clippers, who won despite seeing the Warriors’ season-low six turnovers.

Odom scored 14 of his game-high 29 points during a hot-shooting fourth quarter.

The Clippers, trailing 78-76 after three quarters, made 12 of their first 15 shots in the final quarter to run up a 105-94 lead with 2:40 to play. They broke an 83-83 tie by scoring seven straight points, capped by Odom’s three-point play with 8:01 remaining, and never looked back.

Neither team held a lead of more than four points in the game until that play.

The Clippers won the season series against Golden State, 3-1. It was fitting the Clippers would end their road problems in Oakland.

Odom made 10 of 19 shots from the field as the Clippers shot 52.8% for the game. Eric Piatkowski added 20 points.

Larry Hughes led the Warriors with 30 points and 10 rebounds.
