An employee of an Anaheim recycling center was found dead Monday night by firefighters who sifted through an enormous pile of debris, authorities said.

Firefighters suspect that the death was the result of an accident. The employee, who was not identified, was buried in the huge pile of tree branches and lawn clippings, an Anaheim Fire Department dispatcher said.

A manager at the recycling center, in the 1100 block of North Blue Gum Lane, called the Fire Department at 8:37 p.m.

“An employee was unaccounted for,” the dispatcher said. “He was last seen near the pile of debris. They’re looking at it as an accident.”

About 60 firefighters from Anaheim and several other Orange County departments assisted in the search.
