SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO
Officials from the state Department of Transportation said they are hoping construction work to widen a section of Ortega Highway between Interstate 5 and Rancho Viejo Road will be completed by June.
Sandra Friedman, a spokeswoman for Caltrans, said work has been delayed because the agency was seeking additional funds for traffic lights and concrete barriers. Another factor, she said, was the Southern California Gas Co.’s need to install a natural-gas pipeline beneath the road.
Installation of the pipeline is expected to begin in early April.
