Ex-City Tax Official Is Convicted in Sting
The former deputy tax assessor in Providence, R.I., was convicted in the FBI-dubbed “Operation Plunder Dome” scandal in which bribes were accepted for lower property taxes at City Hall. “Can you believe that?” a crying Rosemary Glancy asked family members after the verdict. The jury found Glancy, 47, guilty on all seven counts, including attempted extortion and mail fraud. She will remain free on bail until her sentencing June 1, and her attorney, Kevin Bristow, said she could face years in prison. The FBI, which amassed more than 100 secretly recorded conversations on video and audio tapes, said its investigation is continuing.
