Northridge Loses to Arizona State

Sara Kahler hit a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in Nichole Thompson from second base and give Arizona State in 2-1 victory over Cal State Northridge in a Cal State Fullerton softball tournament pool-play game Friday at Fullerton.

Veronica Lopez’s home run gave the Matadors (12-12-1) a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, but Andrea Rodgers tied the score in the bottom of the inning with a pinch single that scored Kara Brun from second.

Arizona State (28-4) is ranked No. 3 in the nation.

Northridge faces Fresno State at 11 a.m. today in a championship-bracket game.

MEN’S SWIMMING

Valley 57, Chaffey 33--Michael Do won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:03.4, a qualifying time for the state championships, and won the 200 backstroke in 2:28.9 for the Monarchs (2-2, 2-2) in a Western State Conference victory at Valley.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Chaffey 53, Valley 49--Daniella Yanez won both diving events for the Monarchs (1-3, 1-3) in a WSC meet at Valley.

Yanez won the one-meter springboard competition with 160.0 points and the three-meter event with 165.0 points.
