Robert Bolson Jr.; Longtime Ventura Resident

Ventura resident Robert J. Bolson Jr. died Thursday at a Santa Barbara hospital after a brief illness. He was 74.

Bolson was born July 30, 1925, in Manhattan. He was a 20-year Ventura resident who moved to the area from Woodland Hills.

Bolson received degrees from Fordham University, Yale and also attended the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He earned a law degree at St. John’s University in New York.

Bolson was a World War II veteran and a retired vice president and principal of the Marsh & McLennan insurance company.

He was a member of the Pierpont Racquet Club and attended Our Lady of Assumption Church in Ventura.

Bolson is survived by his wife, Virginia Bolson of Ventura; a son, Robert J. Bolson III of Port Hueneme; a daughter, Nancy Russell of Ventura; and two granddaughters.

A visitation is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Monday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Assumption Church, with burial to follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.

The family suggested that memorial contributions be made to Project Understanding in Ventura, the Assistance League of Ventura County in Ventura, or Altrusa International of Ventura.

The funeral home has charge of the arrangements.
