Trip Pitfalls

Regarding “Maximize Pleasure While Minimizing Costs at Sea” (Travel Insider, Feb. 6): Author Terry Williams advocates that cruisers forgo the shore excursions offered by the cruise line and seek the same or similar excursions from local vendors.

This can save money. Also, if you are late returning, you will be responsible for any expenses you incur to rejoin the cruise.

As a professional travel consultant, I advise you to shop for bargains, but know the pros and cons.
