With Palffy on the Shelf, Moving Robitaille to Right Wing Could Be the Right Thing for Kings

Share

The Kings’ newest right wing is Luc Robitaille, who is their oldest left wing.

Robitaille, one of the few left wings in NHL history to have scored more than 500 goals, worked out at right wing Monday morning after requesting the change Sunday night in a conversation with Coach Andy Murray. Robitaille said that Jason Blake appeared to have been playing well on the left side with other lines.

Blake has replaced injured Ziggy Palffy on the line with Robitaille and Jozef Stumpel.

“It’s no big deal,” Robitaille said. “I did it earlier in the year, when Ziggy was out [with a back injury]. . . . I get more one-timers on right wing.”

Robitaille has scored only once in his last 12 games.

Goalie Stephane Fiset will back up Jamie Storr in tonight’s game. Travis Scott, who has been the backup the last two games, was sent back to Lowell of the AHL.
