WHAT TO LOOK FOR

How they got there: No. 1-seeded Duke cruised past Lamar in the first round and survived a heated matchup with No. 8 Kansas.

No. 5 Florida needed a stumbling, buzzer-beating shot by Mike Miller to defeat Butler in overtime, then had an easier time against No. 4 Illinois.

No. 3 Oklahoma State allowed 66 and 67 points, respectively, in victories over Hofstra and No. 11 Pepperdine.

No. 10 Seton Hall went to overtime in defeating No. 7 Oregon and No. 2 Temple. The last team to win two consecutive NCAA tournament games in overtime--Louisville in 1980--went on to win the championship.

Difference makers: Duke’s Shane Battier is translating qualities such as defense and leadership into tangible numbers. He had 21 points, eight rebounds and eight blocked shots against Kansas.

Oklahoma State forward Fredrik Jonzen had a career-high 21 points Sunday, one game after making a career-high 11 free throws. He also was one rebound shy of reaching double figures for the fourth consecutive game.

Ty Shine stepped in for injured Seton Hall point guard Shaheen Holloway and scored 26 points--including the game-winning three--against Temple.

Miller is the man for Florida. He scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half to help the Gators pull away from Illinois.

Team updates: Seton Hall’s Holloway watched the second half of Sunday’s game against Temple in a wheelchair after spraining his left ankle and he was on crutches afterward. The athletic department lists him as day to day.

Oklahoma State has to be happier than anyone that the regional is in Syracuse. The Cowboys are 4-0 in NCAA tournament games played in the state of New York.

Duke is two victories away from reaching the Final Four for the ninth time under Coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Just like that, Florida Coach Billy Donovan has won four of five NCAA tournament games.

How it shakes out: Florida loves the running game, but you have to figure Duke’s defense won’t allow the Gators to roam the court so freely. Battier and Chris Carrawell look as if they won’t allow Duke to lose.

Seton Hall made 15 of 30 three-point shots against Temple and will need that type of long-range marksmanship to defeat Oklahoma State because it doesn’t figure to get many other types of shots. You’d have an easier time putting a microphone on an NBA coach than you would putting the ball in the basket against that Oklahoma State defense.
