What: “Sports Geniuses”

Where: Fox Sports Net, weeknights, 6 p.m. (repeats at 11 p.m.)

Move over Alex Trebek, here comes Matt Vasgersian. The sports version of “Jeopardy” will begin airing weeknights on Monday, and Vasgersian is a perfect fit as the host. Vasgersian, a 32-year-old USC graduate who is an announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers, keeps the show moving quickly. His co-host is actress/sportscaster Lisa Guerrero.

The show features three contestants through two rounds of questions. Then the two top scorers battle in a winner-take-all “face-off” round.

In the first round, contestants are not penalized for wrong answers. Players initially answer five questions taken from four sports categories, and the round concludes with a “30-second blitz” segment.

In the second, or elimination, round, values are doubled and contestants are penalized for wrong answers. In an attempt to make up ground, the player in third place may use “the shaft,” an inverted baseball bat, to force an opponent to answer a question.

After the two-person “face-off,” the winner with the most points advances, with the ultimate champion winning a truck and tickets to major sports events.

Most shows will include a celebrity guest. The first week, the celebrity guests are Eric Davis, Ernie Banks, Bruce Jenner, Frank Robinson and Bart Conner and his wife Nadia Comaneci.

“Sports Geniuses” was created by Emmy Award-winning game-show producer Greg Sherman, who is also the executive producer of this show.
