The International Coin Collectors Society will present Coin Expo/Valley this weekend in Encino. The show will celebrate the new millennium with a collection of millennium coins from around the world. In addition to a variety of investment and collectible coins, a selection of coin-collecting supplies, memorabilia and other items will be offered.

Ballroom Dancing

The Greater L.A. chapter of the U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dancers Assn. will host the Southern California Amateur Dancesport Championships on Saturday night in Glendale. Competitions in international, American style and Latin ballroom dance, as well as country-western and West Coast swing will be featured. Besides the competitions will be social dancing and other entertainment.

Chamber Music

Music Director Jeffrey Kahane will lead the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra in concert Saturday night in Glendale. The program will include Aaron Copland’s “Quiet City,” with trumpeter David Washburn and English horn player Kimaree Gilad as the principal soloists, and Ravel’s “Introduction et Allegro,” featuring harp soloist JoAnn Turovsky. Pieces by Dvorak and Enseco round out the program.

Collectibles

The Paperback Collectors Show and Sale 2000 takes place Sunday in Mission Hills. Guest authors slated to appear include Harry Turtledove, Forrest J. Ackerman, Karen Anderson, Robert Colby, William Nolan, Jerry Sohl, and Frank Thomas. Bring books for signing.
