RealNetworks Inc., which makes software for publishing and accessing Internet audio and video, on Sunday said 45 companies agreed to provide music and video content for its Take5 online entertainment guide.

They include Alloy Online Inc., Emusic.com Inc. and Liquid Audio Inc. and join 130 others that have signed up for the service since it was introduced in November. Take5 is built into the free RealNetworks software “players” needed for viewing video and listening to music over the Internet.

RealNetworks does not charge content providers for Take5 but does sell ads. The providers benefit from increased traffic to their sites, and RealNetworks uses Take5 to drive demand for its publishing software.

Only video or audio formatted with RealNetworks products is listed.

RealNetworks, based in Seattle, has been beefing up its directory services at Take5 and Real.com to better compete with rivals such as Yahoo Inc. Microsoft Corp. offers competing software for publishing and accessing video and audio.

RealNetworks also said it obtained exclusive Internet rights for new music from Bertelsmann’s Arista Records artists.

The company has exclusive rights for one week for the songs, which can be downloaded for free and played for 30 days.
