Chinese Americans Set Multifaceted Conference

Share

About 500 people are expected to attend a two-day conference beginning Friday downtown to discuss Chinese American interests in politics, business and the arts.

The conference is being held at the Bonaventure Hotel by the Committee of 100--a New York-based national nonpartisan public policy group of Chinese American leaders from a broad array of professions.

Panel discussions feature prominent Chinese Americans such as Yahoo Inc. co-founder Jerry Yang, Old Navy president Jenny Ming and television and film actress Ming-Na Wen. The keynote luncheon speaker Friday is journalist Bill Moyers.

The conference will focus on a wide variety of issues such as trade policy between the U.S. and China, Asian influence in media and business, campaign finance scandals, and the Wen Ho Lee case. Lee is the scientist who faces life in prison for allegedly mishandling America’s nuclear secrets.

The conference begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 404 S. Figueroa St. in Los Angeles. All proceeds from the event go to fund the Committee of 100.
