Tri-City Park’s man-made lake is in the middle of a $30,000 maintenance project, its water noticeably lower than usual.

“We have to reduce the water level so we can clean it,” Steve Pischel, the city’s director of recreation and human services, said Tuesday. “But we’re being careful not to disrupt the ecosystem of the lake.”

The lake, home to duck, geese and fish, is in the middle of the park, a 40-acre area bordered by Placentia, Fullerton and Brea, which will share the cost of the cleanup.

The current maintenance project includes the replacement of three water circulation pumps and the cleaning of trash and sediment that has piled up in the lake and sometimes clogged the pump outlets. Workers have also repaired some minor cracks on the lake’s concrete edge.
