Cerritos Center to Open Season With LeAnn Rimes

The 2000-01 season at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts will offer 118 performances by 76 attractions. It opens Aug. 18 and 19 with shows by country star LeAnn Rimes, and features a variety of pop, classical music, dance, comedy and theatrical performances.

Included are appearances by soloists and orchestra from the Bolshoi Opera (March 8), cellist Mstislav Rostropovich with the Pasadena Symphony (Dec. 1), pianist Murray Perahia with the Academy of St.-Martin-in-the-Fields (March 16), duo-pianists Katia and Marielle Labeque (Oct. 25) and a return by the Teatro Lirico d’Europa, this time in Puccini’s “Turandot” (Feb. 14).

Dance companies include Tchaikovsky Ballet Theater (Oct. 27-29), Moscow Festival Ballet (Feb. 10-11) and Dance Theatre of Harlem (Jan. 12-14). Also performing are conductor Seiji Ozawa with the Saito Kinen Orchestra, pianist Nikolai Luganski, guitarist Paul Galbraith, P.D.Q. Bach and Peter Schickele in “The Jekyll and Hyde Tour,” and the Romeros guitar quartet.
