Freshman Kung Makes Pac-10 Team

Candie Kung of USC, a Fountain Valley High graduate, has been named to the All-Pacific-10 women’s golf team.

Kung, a freshman, won the Pac-10 individual title and set the USC record for lowest stroke average (72.5). She is only the second USC women’s golfer to win a Pac-10 individual title (Jennifer Biehn won in 1994).

Kung is ranked No. 3 in the nation among NCAA players. USC plays in the NCAA West Regional Thursday through Saturday at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.

ANAHEIM CITY TITLE

Erica Blasberg, a sophomore at Corona High, won the Anaheim City Women’s championship, shooting a 36-hole total of one-under-par 143 Saturday and Sunday at Anaheim Hills Golf Course.

Blasberg won by four shots over Hye Yoon Jung of Fullerton and by six shots over Lisa D’Hondt of Temecula.

Debbie Bell of Diamond Bar won the A Flight with a net 139. Janet Chistano of Huntington Beach shot a net 138 to win the B Flight.

In the seniors’ division, Jim Gonzales of Redondo Beach overcame a three-shot deficit in the final round and won in a two-hole playoff over Ricard Bergen of La Palma. The two tied at 143 after 36 holes.

Larry Serafin of San Diego won the B Flight with a net 131 and George Chambers of Newport Beach shot a net 131 to win the C Flight.
