Williams, Abate Placed on Disabled List

Share

The Lancaster JetHawks placed first baseman Peanut Williams and outfielder Mike Abate on the disabled list Thursday.

Williams, who led Lancaster with 28 home runs last season and was selected the team’s most valuable player, is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. The date of his return is uncertain.

Abate broke a bone in his right hand after being hit by a foul ball while seated in the dugout Wednesday night. He is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

To replace the players, Lancaster promoted outfielder Sheldon Fulse from extended spring training and signed outfielder Freddie May.

JetHawk Josue Matos had a perfect game for Lancaster (21-14) through 5 1/3 innings until Harvey Hargrove committed a two-base error.
