Hollywood Freeway Road Work Delayed

The planned closure and construction project on the northbound Hollywood Freeway near Lankershim Boulevard has been postponed from this weekend to the following weekend, MTA officials said.

All northbound lanes on the freeway at the Ventura Boulevard offramp will be closed from midnight Saturday, May 20 through about 9 a.m. Sunday, May 21.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Caltrans will demolish the Ventura Boulevard offramp of the Hollywood Freeway to build a six-lane replacement that will include a ramp traveling directly to the new Universal City Red Line subway station.

But on Friday, MTA officials said the contractor needed extra time to prepare for construction so the project was delayed.

The late-night detour May 20 and 21 will take motorists off the freeway at Lankershim, where they will go through the Metro Rail station area and back to the freeway.

In addition, the MTA said the project’s closure of the southbound section of the freeway will also be postponed until the weekend of June 3 and 4.

All southbound lanes of the freeway will be closed near the Ventura Boulevard offramp and overpass from midnight Saturday, June 3 to about 9 a.m. Sunday, June 4. That detour will take traffic off the freeway at Vineland Avenue, travel along Ventura Boulevard and then back onto the freeway.
