Rabbi Bob Alper, a clergyman and stand-up comic, shares his humor tonight with Congregation Shir Ha-Ma’alot in Irvine.

Alper has served congregations in Buffalo, N.Y., and Philadelphia and has appeared on Showtime, Comedy Central and “Good Morning, America.”

Concert Will Honor Steve Allen, Wyland

Comedian and musician Steve Allen and marine artist Wyland will be honored tonight at a benefit concert for the Crystal Cathedral Academy school for the performing arts.

Allen, who will be commended for his dedication to high standards in television, will perform some of his music during the free public event, which starts at 7 p.m.

Wyland will be honored for his work with children through art, TV and personal appearances encouraging appreciation for the environment. He will complete a painting as part of the benefit.

The Arvella Schuller Scholarship Award Benefit, an annual event, raises funds for children who could not otherwise afford to attend the performing arts school.

Classes to Focus on the Reformation

“Age of Reformation in the 16th Century,” a series of six classes exploring the roots of Protestantism, begins Wednesday at Tustin Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Rebecca B. Prichard will teach the classes from 7 to 8 p.m. on consecutive Wednesdays through June 21. The study will focus on the sweeping changes in the church of that era and the importance of reformation now.
