Outdoor Fruit Vendor Found Shot to Death
A street vendor was shot dead Tuesday evening and found by passers-by in a nearby county area, police said.
The man, described as either Mexican or Guatemalan, was found about 6:30 p.m. sprawled on the ground at West Camino Real and South Peck Road, said Sgt. Sal Munoz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Temple Station.
“They thought he was sick,” Munoz said.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the man was dead and had been shot, Munoz said. He sold fruit at several roadside locations in the area, police said. Detectives were still investigating said they didn’t know whether the man was robbed or if the shooting was random.
The victim’s identity was being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
