Simi Valley Woman Arrested After Chase and Crash

Share

A Simi Valley woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Thursday night after eluding police, then running a red light, striking an oncoming car and flipping her own vehicle an unknown number of times, authorities said.

Kelli Delzer, 38, was pulled over during a routine traffic stop by a Simi Valley police officer at Patricia and Los Angeles avenues about 7:22 p.m., authorities said. Delzer then fled in her vehicle, evading officers for more than 15 minutes before a patrolman saw her Jeep Cherokee at Los Angeles Avenue and Tapo Street, police said.

Delzer then ran a red light, crossed into oncoming traffic on Los Angeles Avenue and glanced off another car, Simi Valley Police Lt. Rex Jones said. Her vehicle rolled an unknown number of times before landing upright in bushes, he said. Rescue workers had to use a special device to pry the roof from the vehicle.

Delzer sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Simi Valley Hospital. As of late Thursday, Delzer’s condition was still being evaluated by physicians, according to a nursing supervisor.

Jones said it was not known how fast the Cherokee was traveling at the time of the crash. No one else was reported injured.
