Winners of The Times’ Valley Edition High School Journalism Awards were honored Thursday at the newspaper’s local headquarters.

The annual contest drew more than 300 entries this year. Two student newspapers--Chronicle, of Harvard-Westlake High School in Studio City, and Tornado Times, of Hoover High School in Glendale--shared first prize for overall excellence for papers publishing more than five pages per issue. Chronicle won the same award last year.

Each school received $500 for its journalism program.

The San Fernando High School newspaper, El Tigre, won the overall excellence award for smaller newspapers, earning a $1,000 prize.
