In the UCLA regional:

UCLA 6, Florida State 1--Amanda Freed pitched a four-hitter to move the Bruins to within one victory of a berth in the women’s College World Series.

In the regional final today at 12:30 p.m., UCLA (42-11-1) will play Florida State, a 4-2 winner over Iowa Saturday. If the Bruins lose, a second, winner-take-all game will be played at 3 p.m.

UCLA had 12 hits and played flawlessly in the field against Florida State. Julie Adams, a former Cypress standout, had four hits with three runs batted in.

Freed (24-7), a sophomore from Pacifica High School, struck out seven and walked three.

In the Big West Conference track and field championships:

Jackson wins--In the final day of competition, Damion Jackson of Cal State Fullerton won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.12 seconds at the University of Idaho in Moscow.

The Titans also took first in the men’s 1,600 relay with a time of 3:12.69 and were second in the 400 relay (40.14).

The Titan men finished sixth with 79.5 points. Idaho (171.50) was first and UC Irvine was eighth with 12.5. Long Beach State was seventh with 70.5 points.
