Philip C. Baker, a retired actor and builder of homes and motion picture sets, died Sunday at his home in Ventura. He was 84.

Baker was born on July 25, 1915, in Eureka.

He moved to Southern California and was 26 when he began building homes in the Hollywood Hills. During World War II, he served in the Coast Guard.

Baker was also active in the motion picture and stage production industries and was an actor, set builder and grip for many years.

He retired in 1981 after 55 years in the building industry and moved to Port Hueneme. That same year he married Bernice Hansen.

Baker was active with the Vocal Productions Group, which is affiliated with the Port Hueneme Community Center, and was a past member of the Oxnard Bilingual Toastmasters.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Louis of Sherman Oaks and Philip of Hollywood Hills; a sister, Valerie Cusack of Pismo Beach; and two stepchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, which is handling the arrangements. The Rev. Paul R. Walker will officiate.
