Store Has Lowdown on Upscale Furnishings

In the 20-plus years I’ve been in the bargain shopping game, it’s become clear that the upscale shopper is the most avid bargain hunter. Designer Interiors Warehouse appeals to this shopper with furnishings from the top names in the industry at its large, warehouse-like facility in Chatsworth.

A formal sofa and love seat upholstered in a patterned beige-on-beige damask with loose pillows and a boxed skirt retails for $1,900, but the tag on it reads $990. A feather- and down-filled chenille sofa with two matching armless chairs at $2,450 sells elsewhere for $6,000.

Many items on the floor have been used in film, TV or photo shoots, which helps bring the prices down. All are first quality and in perfect condition. A bonnet-topped armoire with antique gold trim and hand-painted door panels is eye-catching and retails for $3,590, but here it goes for $1,690.

For savings of more than $5,000, there’s a cherry dining set consisting of a two-piece lighted china buffet with beveled glass doors and mirrored inside back, a double pedestal table with six side chairs and two armchairs plus a matching sideboard, all for $5,690. This down from a retail of $11,000.

For the truly luxurious home, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Weekend Supersales: There are two hot sales this weekend. One is the tent sale at all three locations of the Piano Factory. Figure about 20%-35% reductions on new and used uprights, spinets and grands.

A few pianos and organs that have been languishing in the warehouse too long and need some TLC will be given away to anyone who can haul them off.
