Tonight
vs. San Jose, 7:30
* Site--Rose Bowl, Pasadena.
* Radio--KRLA (1110), KTNQ (1020).
* Records--Galaxy 6-1-5, Earthquakes 2-6-3.
* Record vs. Earthquakes--0-0-1.
* Update--Grass was the story the last time the teams met, May 17 at Spartan Stadium. The Earthquakes left it a bit too long, causing Galaxy Coach Sigi Schmid to voice some memorable comments about the lack of lawn mowers in San Jose. The Earthquakes dominated play offensively in a 0-0 tie, but the return of striker Luis Hernandez, who trained with the Galaxy for the first time Friday morning, should spark Los Angeles’ attack tonight. “When a team plays really defensive against us, I think [Hernandez] has that ability to wriggle free in the box, to turn the corner on somebody when spaces are tight,” Schmid said. “Even though he’s not a huge guy, he’s very good at getting on the end of crosses. He’s very good in the air for a player his size.” That should make for a good matchup with San Jose defender John Doyle. The Earthquakes’ Iranian national team player, Khodadad Azizi, has been a bust in San Jose so far. San Jose midfielder Richard Mulrooney and Galaxy defender Ezra Hendrickson are suspended. Galaxy captain Robin Fraser is sidelined because of injury. The Earthquakes are 0-6-1 on the road this season. The Galaxy holds a 14-5-1 all-time lead in the series.
