Peter Vermes and Miklos Molnar scored second-half goals as the Kansas City Wizards defeated the Tampa Bay Mutiny, 2-1, on Saturday before 7,186 at Tampa, Fla., to remain Major League Soccer’s only unbeaten team.

Kansas City goalkeeper Tony Meola had his MLS-record scoreless streak stopped at 681 minutes when Mamadou Diallo scored in the 66th minute. Still the goalkeeper robbed the Tampa Bay forward two other times as the Wizards improved to 10-0-2.

The 12-game unbeaten streak is tied for the second longest in league history. The Galaxy had a 15-game streak in 1998 and a 12-game run in 1996.

Vermes opened the scoring in the 63rd minute. Molnar’s eighth goal--coming on a bicycle kick--made it 2-0 a minute later.

Washington 3, Dallas 2--Raul Diaz Arce returned to a hero’s welcome as D.C. United ended a record-tying four-game losing streak with a victory over the Burn before 18,120 at Washington.

Dallas lost its third straight game when defender Brandon Pollard’s own goal in the 74th minute broke a 2-2 tie.

Chris Albright and Carlos Llamosa scored for D.C., which had dropped three straight at RFK Stadium. United’s only other four-game losing streak came at the start of the inaugural MLS season in 1996.

New York-New Jersey 4, Chicago 1--Former Galaxy players Steve Jolley and Clint Mathis scored goals a minute apart late in the first half as the MetroStars defeated the Fire before an MLS season-high 41,609 at East Rutherford, N.J.

Another one-time Galaxy player, Ante Razov, scored on a penalty shot in the 71st minute for Chicago, his league-leading 11th goal.
