City officials were unfazed last week by reports that county transportation funds may not be available to pay for the local railroad lowering project.

The city’s $29-million plan to lower eight railroad crossings will be paid for mostly with federal funds, said Chris Becker, executive director of the joint powers authority that oversees the project.

Becker said the loss of funding from the Orange County Transportation Authority would not affect the timing of the railroad project.

“We never thought the bulk of the funds would come from local or state funding,” he said. “Most of the funding will be federal funding.”
