The UCLA baseball team took a step toward its second College World Series appearance in four years when the Bruins defeated Oklahoma, 11-3, Sunday in a regional final at Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark.

UCLA (38-24) advances to a best-of-three super-regional at Baton Rogue, La., where the Bruins will play Louisiana State (46-17).

The winner of the eight super-regionals advance to the College World Series in Omaha.

UCLA outfielder Bill Scott had four of the Bruins’ 15 hits against the Sooners.

UCLA, which gained the No. 1 seed in the regional after tying Stanford and Arizona State for the Pacific 10 Conference championship, also took advantage of five Oklahoma errors.

“Our team has really been on a roller coaster lately,” Scott said, “but I think that we played solid all weekend.”

Oklahoma finished 41-23.

Ryan Carter (3-1), making only his second start of the season for UCLA, pitched eight strong innings, giving up four hits, walking three and striking out two. Jon Brandt pitched the final inning.

Carter suffered a shoulder injury early in the season and had been converted to a closer.

“My goal was to go five innings,” Carter said. “The next thing I knew it was the eighth.”

Oklahoma starter Austin Mix (10-2) surrendered nine runs, only four of them earned, and 12 hits in seven innings.
