Thurston Middle School will be one of five in south Orange County that will begin a new discipline program next year. The program emphasizes more consistency in discipline throughout the school.
“This way, students won’t be able to say they didn’t know,” said Principal Ron La Motte. “If you can’t wear a hat in one class, that means you can’t wear a hat in another class either. We’ll set up a consistent discipline system so no matter who is on staff, the system stays the same.”
The new program, Effective Behavior Support System, calls for staff analysis, along with parent surveys, to be used to determine what discipline measures should be used at the school.
