Students from seven schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District read more than 11 million pages over a six-month period, earning each school a $5,000 prize in the inaugural Governor’s Reading Award Program this month. Allen, Brookhurst, Heritage, Monroe, Patton and Woodbury elementary schools and Fitz Intermediate School were among the 400 California public schools to receive awards. A committee at each school will determine which academic programs will benefit from the awards.
