* Museum--The Santa Barbara Museum of Art will host an illustrated lecture by professor Henri Dorra on Friday at 4 p.m., titled “Erotica, Exotica and the Great Dilemmas of Man: Paul Gauguin’s Symbolism in Tahiti.” Drawn from his book of the same title, soon to be published by the University of California Press, Dorra’s lecture will analyze Gauguin’s evocations of the pattern of love, life and death, plus the underlying religious beliefs and traditions of the Tahitian culture. $2-$7. * Art Auction--The Santa Barbara Historical Museum will hold its seventh annual California Art Auction on Saturday, featuring works from historical and contemporary artists, among them Edward Borein, Colin Campbell Cooper, Ray Strong and William B. Dorsey. More than 100 works of art will be offered for sale from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by the auction at 4 p.m. Free. * Hip-Hop--The MTV Campus Invasion will hit the Santa Barbara Bowl on Saturday with headliner Wyclef Jean and special guests Del La Soul and Black Eyed Peas. $25-$33. The venue is at 1122 Milpas St. 962-7411.

* Fund-Raiser--The Junior League of Santa Barbara will hold its 75th Anniversary Monster Rummage Sale on Saturday at the Earl Warren Showgrounds, Ventura Freeway at Las Positas Road, Santa Barbara. Hours: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Up for sale: clothing, toys, sporting goods, furniture, collectibles and more. Also, the Tri-Counties Blood Bank will sponsor a blood and marrow registration drive. * Hug-a-Tree--The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden will hold Oak Day on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon. There will be activities for children and adults, including docent tours, a learning station, crafts, acorn planting and more. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and $1 children 5-12. * Classical--The Santa Barbara Symphony will present “Music of Nobility” this weekend at the Arlington Theatre, 1317 State St., Santa Barbara. Violinist Hilary Hahn will be featured in Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Performances: Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. $15-$40. 963-4408.

* Chamber Music--The Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra will present the first of two “Chamber Players Series” concerts Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, 2550 Puesta del Sol Road. Featuring music director Heiichiro Ohyama on violin, the program will include works by Dittersdorf, Strauss and Mendelssohn. $30. 687-7820.
