Families Invited to ‘Messiah’ Sing-Along

A local Mormon church is sponsoring a family sing-along of Handel’s “Messiah” on Dec. 10.

Admission is free and the public is welcome, but participants must obtain their own music scores and review the best-known choruses in order to join others in the singing, said conductor Marcene Jardine.

Soprano Jill Guth, mezzo-soprano Linda Foster, tenor Charles Padilla and bass James Crawford will be joined by organist Dee Cummings for the holiday concert.

“Families are encouraged to bring their children and introduce them to this great music,” Jardine said.

Guth, a Port Hueneme resident, performed recently in a Ventura Master Chorale Bach/Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra concert at the Serra Center, as well as “Hobson’s Choice,” John Bigg’s original opera that recently finished a three-week run at Ventura College Opera Workshop.

Foster, a Ventura resident, performed as a soloist in the Bach concert and has sung with several major Ventura County choral organizations.

Padilla, a Newbury Park resident, is well known as a singer, conductor and jazz musician in Ventura and Los Angeles counties. Crawford is the interim choir director with Trinity Lutheran Church in Ventura.

Cummings is known for her work with the choir of the Camarillo Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The sing-along begins at 7 p.m. at the Camarillo Stake Center for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1201 Paseo Camarillo, Camarillo.
